Rourkela: Kosal Mukti Rath commenced its 3-month long journey from Sainik Bhawan, Rourkela as scheduled from October 2. Intended mostly to enlist supporters for Kosal Janata Dal, a new political outfit of the state, the flag off ceremony began with a puja performed by Asharani Das, a devotee of Nirmala Devi. It became an all women affair when Surama Mishra, another lady of literary eminence flagged off the chariot.
A rally of about 50 motor cyclists, some four wheeler riders touched various corners of Rourkela city during the day. Statues of Veer Surendra Sai at VSS market, Mahatma Gandhi at Panposh Chowk and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at Uditnagar were garlanded under the leadership of State President Baidyanath Mishra. Speeches of KJD leaders rented the air with simultaneous distribution of leaflets carrying message of the party as a part of an awareness campaign.
Deficit in governance by successive leaders of Odisha since independence has led to a serious kind of regional imbalance, the speakers said. They lashed out at Government citing issues relating to Rourkela’s second Brahmani bridge and Super Specialty Hospital in IGH which have become elusive despite promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They were also critical about utter negligence to areas of tourist potential like Vedvyas, Khandadhar and Pradhanpat in this zone and Harishankar, Nrusinghanath and Patara Dam in the other zone which could have been developed as tourist corridors to attract visitors. 70 percent of Odisha’s revenue is generated from Western Odisha out of which only 30 per cent is allocated for development work, they rued.
The Mukti Rath on the second day rolled down in the peripheral areas of Rourkela. In Fertilizer Township the team garlanded the statue of Sahid Pradip Panda. A massive awareness campaign was organized in Lathikata, 20 kilometers away from Rourkela. The Rath is scheduled to touch Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Deogarh in the second phase.
