Bhubaneswar: Kalahandi district in Odisha ranked 1 in ‘agriculture’ among 108 ‘aspirational districts’ by NITI Aayog on the basis of incremental development from Mar 31-May 31, 2018; Nabarangpur district ranked first in financial inclusion Aspirational Districts.
Nabarangpur district of Odisha also ranked last in health & nutrition sector among 108 districts; Malkangiri district ranks third in agriculture and Gajapati district added in the category of least improved district (rank-105).
Kalahandi district has been adjudged as the most improved district in agriculture across the country and placed at the top of the Delta Ranking for the Aspirational Districts of the country in agriculture sector.
A report of NITI Aayog said, this apart, Malkangiri district has also been ranked third in the list of most improved districts in agriculture. However, on Delta Ranking Malkangiri roped in highest marks with taking the district to Top Spot and 26th In India.
Similarly, Nabarangpur district is the most improved district in the country in financial inclusion, as per the ranking. However, the district has been placed at the bottom spot in health and nutrition sector.
The ranking is based on self-reported data of districts between March 31 and May 31, 2018, the NITI Aayog report revealed.
The districts started entering data from April 1, 2018 in the Champions of Change Dashboard and 108 districts participated in the ranking.
This Delta ranking takes a step further and looks into specific aspects of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and analyses how districts have performed in last two months across important sectors.
This grouping and positioning would aid the district Collectors to focus more on these sectors and improve their ranking in future. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January this year, the ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’ programme aims to quickly and effectively transform some of the most underdeveloped districts of the country, being monitored by the NITI Aayog.
