Report by Malaya Mohapatra; Barbil: In an effort to promote the tribal art forms like folk dance, song and archery, JSPL Foundation, the CSR arm of Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) organised ‘Jumur-2018’- a two-day cultural extravaganza here at Sialijoda under Joda Block. The event which witnessed hundreds of footfalls irrespective of age groups concluded on Friday.
In the closing ceremony JSPL’s Barbil Unit Head Shri Suresha G gave away prizes to the winners of all categories.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Suresha said, “We are committed to protect and promote age-old cultural traditions of tribal community. We hope our small step will benefit all the communities socially and culturally in a big way.”
On day one, nearly 80 enthusiasts from six gram panchayats under Joda Block participated in the archery competition. In senior category of the instinctive shooting event Shri Jarman Munda, Shri Jogen Purty and Shri Manmohan Munda were declared winners, while Shri Subas Purty, Shri Bishikeshan Purty and Shri Ajay Laguri won prizes in the junior category.
Men and women from Bhuyan, Ho-Munda, Kudumi and Gouda communities in their traditional and colourful attire, who participated in the folk dance stole the show by mesmerizing the audience. Dance forms like Madal, Nagra and Jhumka left the audience enthralled.
The major attraction of the closing evening was flute and sarangi performance by tribal men. As many as 15 groups participated each in folk dance and folk song competition.
Among others EVP and Head (Commercial) Shri S.K. Agrawal, VP (Mechanical Maintenance & Projects) Shri V.C.S. Rao and AVP and Head (Finance) Shri Manas Dash were present on the occasion.
JSPL Foundation consciously promotes ethnic Art, Culture and Sports to mainstream the grassroots talents and grooms them to the national platform. Besides Odisha, the Foundation has been also promoting the talent from the tribal predominant districts in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and other States.
