Nuh: After huge success in Chhendipada, Banarpal and Angul block of Angul district in Odisha, Kishori Express, the flagship programme of JSPL Foundation for controlling adolescent anaemia among girls has been flagged off today (07/03/2019) at Nuh district of Haryana by Union Steel Minister Shri Chaudhary Birendra Singh.
Inaugurating the programme today at Indri Panchayat Village, Union Minister Shri Singh thanked JSPL and JSPL Foundation for replicating this successful programme in Nuh District. On the occasion, Joint Secretary (Steel) Shri Puneet Kanshal, Nuh’s District Collector Shri Pankaj Kumar, Ms. Nandita Bakshi, JSPL’s Jt Managing Director Shri NA Ansari, Group Head (CSR & Sustainability) Shri Prashant Kumar Hota, Mrs. Puspa Satapathy of JSPL and other senior government functionaries were present on the occasion.
In Haryana, the Kishori express will cover Punhana revenue block of Nuh district. It will focus upon the Adolescent girls in each village and will operate in close collaboration with District Administration / ICDS / CDMO district.
Speaking on the occasion, JSPL’s Jt. Managing Director Shri NA Ansari said, “Kishori Express is one such Project of JSPL Foundation’s Holistic Women empowerment Programme where we have targeted the health care and personal hygiene of the adolescent girls. We are hopeful that this will achieve same kind of success that it achieved in Odisha”. He thanked Union Steel Minister and district administration of Nuh for launching this programme in Haryana.
Led by Shri Naveen Jindal, JSPL has established Odisha’s largest integrated steel plant of 6 MTPA Capacity at Angul, Odisha. Kishori Express programme was launched in April 2011 in Chhendipada block and replicated at Banarpal block of Angul in 2012 with an objective to control anaemia in adolescent girls through timely detection and intervention. In September 2017, the District Social Welfare Office, Angul approved to run the Kishori Express programme in Angul ICDS with appreciation that ‘severely anaemia among adolescent girls has decreased to the optimum level at Chhendipada ICDS’. Last year the programme was extended to Angul block of the district. Presently Kishori Express covers 528 villages in which more than 54,000 girls are being regularly screened, counselled and treated. Among them, more than 90 % girls have retained their normal haemoglobin level after more than one year of intervention.
JSPL Foundation’s Co-Chairperson Smt. Shallu Jindal said “Kishori Express is one of the JSPL Foundation’s flagship programme and has a focused mission to eradicate anaemia in adolescent girls in the geography of its operation. I am sure that our Foundation Team will work with same passion and zeal to replicate Odisha experience in Haryana and fully succeed to remove anaemia in adolescent girls in its area of operation in Nuh district and there by ensure a healthy tomorrow for them.
JSPL’s Group Head (CSR & Sustainability) Shri Prashant Hota said, “Kishori Express succeeded in Angul for convergence collaboration of JSPL foundation with district administration. We shall strive to have similar model in Nuh district”.
