JSPL-backed talents bag six gold in Boxing Championship

Barbil: Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL)-supported rural talents have bagged six gold medals in the State Level Sub-junior Boxing Championship jointly organised by Boxing Orissa and Khurda District Amateur Boxing Association, recently in Bhubaneswar.

In girls’ category Ms Manju Munda, Ms Arti Gope and Ms Jashoda Purty won gold medals while in boys’ segment Mr Rajesh Munda, Mr Kishore Pradhan and Mr Sajeeb Naik contributed three gold medals to the team’s overall medal tally.

Mr Krishna Munda and Mr Randa Purty earned silver medals for the team led by coach Pankaj Mahanta. ‘Best Boxer of the Tournament’ title was claimed by Ms Manju Munda. The gold medalists from each segment qualified to represent Orissa at the National Amateur Boxing Championships to be held at Hyderabad from September 27th to 30th.

A total of eight from Martial Arts Club, Sialijoda had participated in the meet through Keonjhar District Athletic Association. The two-day event concluded on September 17.

Congratulating the team, EVP & Unit Head Shri G. Suresha wished all success to the team for the national championship.

Dronacharya Awardee and eminent coach of famous boxer Bijender Singh, Mr Braja Bhusan Mohanty honoured the tournament with his presence. He encouraged the participants by providing boxing tricks to the young players.
