Illegal Demands & coercion continues at Talcher coalfields

Sambalpur:  In an unfortunate incident, Sri Suman Behera, Electrical Helper, Cat-ii, aged 26 years, an employee of MCL Ananta OCP of Bharatpur Mines who reported for duty at 7: am and thereafter left work unauthorized, met with a fatal road accident at around 10:00 am near the Talcher Bye-pass road much outside the mining premises.
In an FIR copy filed with the Inspector-in-charge, Colliery police Station, Handidhuan, Talcher, it transpires that after the post-mortem, the body of the deceased was transported to the Time Office, by a mob led by Hon’ble MLA Sri Braj Kishore Pradhan & Sri Biswanath Behera,, Union Secy, TKKMS(BMS) and Sri Manoy Ku. Sahoo, Sarpanch Ghantapada GP among others with illegal demands.
Sri A.S.Rao, BMS Union Leader & Sri Biswanath Behera, Union Secy, TKKMS(BMS), Sri Sanjay Majhi, General Secy, BMS and Sri Sudarshan Mohanty, Union leader of Lingaraj OCP demanded for immediate Provisional Appointment Letter to the unmarried sister of the deceased which is against the rules of the company.
The company management offered to extend all legal & legitimate terminal benefits which was turned down by the Hon’ble MLA, Union leaders and others present there.
Eventually as the mob turned violent in the presence of the S.D.P.O, Talcher, The Area Personnel Manager fearing for life drafted a letter in Oriya as dictated by Sri Sanjay Majhi, General Secy, BMS under the leadership of Hon’ble MLA, which was signed by the Hon’ble MLA.
The incident resulted in stoppage of total mining operations in the Project causing a loss of 3500 Te of coal, 3000 cum of Over Burden Removal besides heavy demurrage costs to the company by way of non-loading of 10,000 Te of coal from Bhubaneswari OCP, Bharatpur OCP & Ananta OCP to the Rly sidings and related losses to the State and Central exchequer especially when all Power Houses in the country are in urgent need of the dry fuel.
The MCL Management has always kept the interest of its workmen paramount and leaves no stone unturned in providing the best of welfare amenities to its workmen. However, while mourning the unfortunate death of one of its workforce, the management expresses its inability to give in to the illegal demands raised by the Union and other public representatives and condemns their action.
