ICAR-CIFA conducted Interface meet on Aquaculture at Chandragiri, Gajapati

Chandragiri : ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar (ICAR-CIFA) Bhubaneswar in joint association with Krushi Vigyan Kendra, Gajapati (OUAT), State fisheries department and Soura development Agency conducted Interface meet on Aquaculture at Chandragiri, Gajapati on 25th September, 2018. Tribal development has been a challenge since years to the planners and policy makers mainly due to their traditional life styles,remoteness of settlements and dispersed population and displacements. Central and states Govt. are taking various initiatives for their upliftment. This includes Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) now called Scheduled tribe Component (STC). Gajapati district is identified as one of the Aspirational (Tribal) districts under the by the government of India. The district has been adopted under STC plan of ICAR-CIFA for demonstration of aquaculture centric programmes for livelihood development of the tribal farming communities from 2018.

Shri Anupam Saha, IAS, Collector & Dist. Magistrate, Gajapati, Odisha attended as the chief guest on this occasion. He appreciated ICAR-CIFA for conducting for conducting this interface on Aquaculture Centric Integrated livelihood development in gajpati district. Among the others who spoke on this occasion were Dr Kalyan Sundar Das, Principal Scientist, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata; Dr Manoranjan Mohapatra, Joint Director, OUAT; Mr Santosh Kumar Pradhan, Special Officer, SDA,Chandragiri; Dr S.C Behera, DFO & CEO – FFDA; Dr P Routray, Principal Scientist, ICAR CIFA; Dr. K.C Das, Principal Scientist ICAR-CIFA: Dr S. Paramguru, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK- Gajapati: Bansidhara Khoshla, BDO, Mohana & Smt. Narmada Dalai, Sarapancha, Chandragiri GP.

The programme was inaugurated by welcome address by Dr. S.S. Mishra, Head, FHMD and team leader, ICAR-CIFA for STC-Gajapati. He gave a brief outline of the interface meet and he also informed the role of ICAR-CIFA in this for working in this District. Around 150 farmers, scientists, state Govt. officials, other stakeholders attended this important meeting. A “Report on Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan (KKA) in Gajapati district, Odisha” was released on this occasion. Five nos. of SDA WSHGs groups, two nos. of WSHGs of Mohana and 8 nos. of SHGs of OPELIP, Chandragiri were distributed with improved varieties of chicks, poultry feed, fish fingerlings, fish feed, Lime, fertilizer for pond water quality improvement and Mushroom seeds for mushroom culture. Further skill development at the site would be given to all the SHGs.

Before the inauguration, a Swachha bharat Abhiyan programme was conducted by ICAR-CIFA in association with Soura Development Agency, Chandragiri. A rally was organized on this occasion in which around 120 Soura ST Farmers along with Scientists and officials from ICAR-CIFA, KVK-Gajapati, Joint Director, Extension, OUAT; Principal Scientist from ATARI, Kolkata, participated. The main objective of this programme was to bring awareness among citizens to keep the streets, drains and environment clean.

Mr. Satyanarayan Sahoo, scientist ICAR-CIFA and Mrs. R. Toppo Scientist KVK-Gajapati coordinated the above programme. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Bibhudutta Mishra, Sr. Tech. Officer ICAR-CIFA.
