China secures 2nd position with 20 medals, Kazakhstan in 3rd position with 8 medals.
Japan was champion state in the first five editions of the Asian championhips from 1973 to 1981. China’s domination came in 1983 at Kuwait City and continued till the previous edition at their Wuhan two years ago.
It is a proud moment for the Indians to topple the dragon-land’s monopoly in athletics no matter China fielded only a second string team in Bhubaneswar as it is reserving the best for the upcoming World championships in London next month.
