Report by Nishapati Nayak; Sunabeda: HAL trade union BAEU (Biju Aeronautics Employees,Union )and outside paid rich tributes to legendary leader Biju Patnaik or Bijayananda Patnaik on his 103rd birth anniversary today at office of the recognised union ,HAL township,sunabeda of koraput district. political leaders from different parties paid floral tributes at the statue of Biju babu on the occasion. His birthday is observed as ‘Panchayati Raj Diwas’ in Odisha.
A brave and a revolutionary leader, Biju Patnaik was born to Laxminarayan and Ashalata Patnaik on March 5, 1916, at Cuttack in Odisha. After passing out with a degree in Aeronautics from the Aeronautical Training Institute of India, Biju babu started his career with the Indian National Airways.
He was imprisoned in 1945 for taking part in the Quit India Movement. Later, Biju babu also played a prominent role in the Nepalese democratic movement and Indonesia’s struggle for freedom from the Dutch rule. For his exemplary contribution to the Indonesian freedom struggle, he was conferred with the highest civilian award in Indonesia titled ‘Bhumi Putra’
Biju Babu served as the Chief Minister of Odisha from 1961 to 1963 and again from 1990 to 1995. He passed away on April 17, 1997, in New Delh.
The said programme started near about 8.30am by flag hosting ,flower garlandingand lightning of lamps to Biju babu statue located at HAL MEASEUM by BEAU president mr. Ashok Das,mr.srinivas manika ,general secertary and associates including HAL management officials and political party leaders of BJD named mr.ishwar chandra panigrahi ,state planning commision member and president of BJD,koraput ,mr. prafulla pangi, MLA ,pottangi,(president-district planning board),mr.raghuram padel,ex –MLA,koraput,mr. raghuram machha,MLA contestant ,mr. siba patnaik, observer BJD, mrs,subahshree mallick ,chairperson ,sunabeda muncipality,mr.ratnakar nanda ,vice chairman, sunabeda muncipality,mr.amit agarwal,youth president, BJD with councillors and employees of HAL were present during this celebration.
Under urban transformation named”unnati” scheme a meeting hall was inagurated for BAEU near y-zone out gate by mr. prafulla pangi ,mla,pottangi, mr. ishwar chandra panigrahi,district president , BJD,mrs. Subha shree mallick , chairperson , sunabeda muncipality, mr. swastik jamadar , executive officer , sunabeda muncipality.
Later meeting was oraganised by BAEU (regn.no.479/jyp. affilated to hind mazdoor sabha) at office of the recognised union near about 3.15 pm which was witnessed by maximum employees .This is the first meeting held after this union came to power. Mr.suryadebara chandrasekhar,chief–convenor,(AIHALTUCC)and mr. b. v. shelke,convenor(AIHALTUCC) were the guests whow came from other division of HAL . they highlighted late biju babu and stated koraput is known for HAL,engine division and sopke issues related to trade union.
This programme ended with cultural programme held at bhanja mandap of HAL .
