Koraput: The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Ministry of Culture, Government of India in collaboration with Nandanik, a theatre group based in Koraput, Odisha began the observation of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak in Koraput by organizing a week long painting workshop for school children themed on the life and work of Guru Nanak.
The workshop was inaugurated today at Bikash Vidyalaya, Koraput. On the inaugural dais were Shri Kamalesh Sahu and Gokul Pradhan, teacher & staff of Bikash Vidyalaya, Monideepa Gupta and Saumendra Kumar Swain, secretary and treasurer of Nandanik, Shri Nilamashab Mahapatra, eminent painter and art teacher of Koraput and Guru Sujit Singh, a devotee of Guru Nanak and representative of the Sree Guru Singh Sahib, Semiliguda, Koraput. The opening ceremony was anchored by Susmita Subhadarshini.
Monideepa Gupta in his opening note thanked the EZCC for choosing a remote and tribal area like Koraput to hold this kind of a programme. Shri Sujit Singh gave an enlightening speech on life and work of Guru Nanak. The photograph of Guru Nanak was garlanded and Shri Nilamadhab Mahapatra, who is the principal resource person of the workshop started his classes by distributing art & painting material among the participants. Vote of thanks was presented by Saumendra Kumar Swain who thanked Bikash Vidyalaya authorities and EZCC for supporting the initiative. Ajaya Edding, Joydev Majumdar, Angadala Madhu and Abinash Pani volunteered in the programme.
30 school children have participated in the workshop which is going to conclude on 21 April 2019 with an exhibition of paintings by the children.
