GKEL observes Odisha Disaster Preparedness Day

Bhubaneswar: GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) observed “Odisha Disaster Preparedness Day and National Day for Disaster Reduction” by conducting various awareness programs and competitions among Community people, employees and workmen at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal district from October 29 to November 1, 2017.
The objective of the programme was to create awareness among employees, workmen, township family members and the local community as a whole about the possibility of disasters and the need for greater preparedness to meet such calamities with a theme “Early Warning Dissemination”. Banners were displayed at locations of the plant to sensitize employees, workmen and township family members on techniques and methods of disaster reduction.
A mass awareness campaign was organized with the workmen, employees and HoDs during the occasion. The EHS department also organized quiz competitions among workmen, employees, township & community ladies on disaster management.
Attending as Chief Guest during the valedictory function, Mr. Ramesh R Pai, Chief Operating Officer (COO), GKEL appreciated the efforts of EHS department for organizing awareness programs and enhancing confidence on disaster management among employees. “Disaster is a sudden, calamitous event that brings great damage, loss and devastation to life and property. We should prepare ourselves to handle any type of disaster in our life,” Mr. Pai said.
Mr. Arabinda Pani, Head-O&M shared his experience about the impact different type of natural and industrial disasters. He advised all to follow the guidelines being given through mass media for preparedness during disasters. Mr. Susanta Sahoo, Head – EHS updated about different facilities, aid being provided by Odisha government and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) during and after the disasters.
The programme culminated with distribution of prizes to the winners of different competitions. The programme was co-ordinated by Mr. Pravind Shah & Mr. Ashok Sahu of EHS department with support of CSR team.
