Gandhigiri can change the face of Indian journalism: Ramendra Kumar

Dhenkanal: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) on Friday organised a roundtable on ‘PR in the Digital Age’ as a Silver Jubilee Celebration initiative. Speaking at the event, Noted writer and CPRO of Rourkela Steel Plant, Ramendra Kumar opined that principles of Gandhi can be used as a standard for the public relation professionals.
He said, “Principles followed by Mahatma Gandhi should be used as a benchmark by the media professionals. In a time when news outlets and social media have an immense impact on the society, a media or public relation professional can effectively use Gandhi’s ‘ETC’ formula, which proposes the use of Ethics, Truth, and Credibility, in PR and corporate communication.”
Professor Dr. MrinalChatterjee, Regional Director of IIMC Dhenkanal, Professor Subir Ghosh, Principal of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan and Samir Goswami, Former CPRO of Eastern Railways, Amarjyoti Mahapatra, President of PRSI Odisha Chapter and Rakesh Mishra, Sr. GM of Aditya Birla also enlightened the gathering on the topic.
Throwing light on the fundamental change brought by digitization in the field of mass media, Dr. Chatterjee said that it has led to the democratization of participation in the communication process making communication interesting and challenging. He also said that the Digital Revolution has made everyone a creator of content, but the credibility of that content is often suspectable.
Speaking on the same subject, the Professor Ghosh said, “Digital era has created a global village and killed distances. The world has now become a smaller place. Communication is now more contextual and personalised.”
Professor Subir Ghosh’s book ‘Corporate English’ was also launched at the event.
As part its, silver jubilee celebration, the institute is will also organize a fiction writing workshop on 24th February. The workshop will be curated by Ramendra Kumar.
