Cuttack: The district administration has geared up to make elaborate arrangements for the ensuing four-day Kali Puja in the city scheduled to begin from October 26 with immersion of deities fixed for October 29.
The Kali Puja in Cuttack city is held in two phases. Whereas the entire city would be having the festival celebrated as per the above schedule, the oldest puja gathering at Bidyadharpur and its adjoining places would have a different schedule where the celebrations would be a week-long affair.
According to official sources, this year around 65 mandaps would be observing the pujas in the city whereas the Bidyadharpur Kali Puja in the eastern limits of the city would have around 40 mandaps.
But only two of the 40 mandaps in Bidyadharpur would have deities of Goddess Kali.
The district administration on Tuesday had a puja preparatory presided over by district collector Girish SN. The meeting discussed threadbare about the celebrations.
Members of local puja committees suggested ways and measures to improve the revelry in the city in a peaceful and cordial manner.
Apart from puja committee members, the Mahanagar Puja Committee and Mahanagar Peace Committee members also participated in the meeting giving necessary suggestions. It was unanimously decided in the meeting that the immersion of the deities in the city would be held on October 29.
