Orissa: Mahasweta Ray the ultimate versatile actresses of Odia Cinema

Report by Ashok Palit; Bhubaneswar: Mahasweta Ray has acted in nearly 50 Odia films during an illustrious career spanning over 35 years. A native of Puri district, Mahasweta had been a leading actor both in Odia and Bengali film industry. Noted for her versatility and acknowledged as one of the finest actresses of Odia Cinema.
She did a number of films, some of which were very successful. To name a few, we have Sesha Shrabana, Janma Data, Sati Anusaya, Sankha Mahuri, Chinha Achinha, Maa O Mamata, Pooja, Tike Hasa Tike Luha, Hisab Nikas etc. After that, she was offered lot of challenging roles of different genre and she took up the challenge and proved her worth.
Like Swapana Sagara, DORA, GruhaLaxmi, Jaa Devi Sarba Bhuteshu, Kandhei brought a lot of name and fame. She has won many awards for her performances in many movies and "Sesa Shrabana" was her first ever movie with legendary actors Prashanta Nanda and Hemanta Das. Most of the people are not aware that Mahasweta has acted in Manmohan Mahapatra first directed movie Seetarati in 1982.
It is worthy to note that Seetarati laid foundation stone for new wave Odia cinema. Last year Mahasweta was features in Tu Thele Mora Dara Kahaku, recently she is playing an important role in Kemiti a Bandhan.
