EMIL dedicates Geological Rock Garden to the State of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The “GEOLOGICAL ROCK GARDEN” built by the Essel Mining and Industries Limited (EMIL) in the premises of the Geological Department of Utkal University has been inaugurated today. Prof Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, Vice Chancellor and Shri Ashok Kumar Bal, CEO, India Mining Operation, Essel Mining and Industries Ltd has jointly inaugurated the property.

Addressing the august gathering, Prof Soumendra Mohan Patnaik, Vice Chancellor praised EMIL to have extended its cooperation for such a project that opens industry-university interface. He urged the students to make the best use of the garden for their learning.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ashok Kumar Bal, CEO, EMIL emphasized the importance and need for such platform wherein knowledge and experience sharing can take place between institutes and corporates. He also stressed on the maintenance of the quality of the project which will set an example and make the Geological Rock Garden a model project as well.

While Dr. B.K.Ratha, HoD, Geology Department gave introductory address, Sri A.K.Pati, AVP, EMIL extended the vote of thanks. Several dignitaries including senior officials of EMIL, faculty members of different departments of the University, students of Geology Department and officials of EMIL were present during the inaugural ceremony.

The Geological Rock Garden is designed to be one of the best Open Geological Laboratory and shall enliven the concept of Geology textbook, to practical approach in field measurement, mapping techniques, and identification of rocks, minerals, ores and fossils. The lab will enhance the teaching standards, catering to the needs of Post Graduate and PhD students of the Department and shall beautify the ambience as well. It will also provide a beautiful educative spot for students of the entire University and visitors to the campus.
