Drone surveillance traced deer in #CycloneFani-ravaged Balukhand Sanctuary

Konark: Drone surveillance traced whereabouts of deer in CycloneFani-ravaged Balukhand Sanctuary. PCCF Wildlife Ajay Mohapatra informs that thatched shelter structures to protect deer from summer heat & manual filling of dry water bodies till onset of rains will be carried out.

As per eye estimate, the cyclone damaged nearly 55 lakh trees, mostly casuarinas.As many as 20% of the trees were uprooted, while the rest were found snapped and broken. The devastation has left around 400 spotted deer homeless. Balukhand sanctuary, spread over an area of 71 sq km, was home to around 4000 spotted deer along with wild boar, jackals, striped hyenas and wolves .
