Divisional Level Safety Convergence Programme at IFFCO Paradip Unit

Paradip: The State of Odisha is marching ahead with rapid industrialisation during the last one decade under the able leadership of our Chief Minister of Odisha. This has not only boosted our economy but also enhanced employment. However, this has resulted in rise of industrial accidents; wherein the contract labourers suffer the most. This is because of inadequate training, lack of technical skills and expertise in manufacturing processes.

Considering the facts and figures, the Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Govt. Of Odisha has taken initiative to create awareness among the industrial workers and to appraise the managements of the different factories to conduct awareness Training Programmes for the cause of human safety.

This is the first divisional level Training Programme at Paradip. The management of IFFCO-Paradip, one of the leading manufacturers of fertilisers in India, has volunteered to carry forward the interests of the industrial workers in the district of Jagatsinghpur. Delegates from more than 19 different industrial houses assembled today wherein the best practices on the industrial safety and accident prevention were discussed. A comprehensive analysis of the cause of accidents and review of best practices adopted was made which shall be spread to all the industrial houses of the State.

Smt. Anu Garg, Principal Secretary to Govt. Of Odisha in Labour & ESI Department, during her short span in Labour & ESI department, has carried forward the momentum of Government to the grass root level. Since her joining, she immediately convened a State Level Convergence Meeting on Industrial Safety and Accident Prevention on 31st October, 2017. Realising the importance of industrial disaster management she also reviewed the measures initiated in each district and advised Collectors to address the issue on priority. Under her guidance, Directorate of Factories & Boilers has chalked out one “Annual Training Calendar” for the year 2018 to conduct atleast one Training Programme in the Industrial hubs of the State.

The Collector-cum-District Magistrate Smt. Yamini Sarangi spoke some various new initiatives being taken in the district on cleanliness of Paradip Municipality, Car parking, Road Safety measures, formation of District level Crisis Management group to regularly conduct meeting on industrial crisis of all group. In addition to this, feeling the needs of industrial workers, she has also proposed to open a Super Speciality Hospital at Paradip which will cater all accident related cases.

 

 

The Principal Secretary also appreciates the online system of incidents / accident Report at IFFCO and also added mobile apparatus on ‘Unsafe Act and Conditions’. Big industries must interrogate with other small industries. The Government has also taken initiative for Safety Programmes in each month on some issues. The Government will give State Safety Awards on 10th of March every year. All industries should participate in the said award. The District Crisis Group and Local Crisis Group constituted at Paradip must monitor on regular basis. 26 Nos. of workmen out of 19 industries were felicitated in this Convergence Programme. She also emphasized on these awardees and directed to the Directorate to come with story and photograph and this needs to be published in a magazine called “PRERANA”. On safety part, she again reiterated that safety has no compromise. All the senior officials from Directorate of Factories & Boilers were present on this Divisional Level Safety Convergence Programme.

Shri. A K Panda, Unit Head of IFFCO, Paradip addressed and on his inaugural speech, spoke on safety measures and best practices being adopted by IFFCO Paradip. He also assured to abide by the directives of the State Government with regard to safety and accident free environment in the IFFCO Paradip Unit.

The entire programme was coordinated by the JGM (Safety & Environment), Mr. J P Srivastav, Mr. G.C. Acharya, DGM (HR) and Mr.S R Maurya, DGM (P&A).
