Dharmendra Pradhan urged Union Agriculture Minister to provide support to Odisha farmers who lost crops due to untimely rains

Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday urged Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh to provide required support to the farmers who have lost crops due to untimely rains and hailstorm in Odisha.

Crops have been lost in many districts due to Nor’wester rains and hailstorms, Pradhan mentioned in a letter to Singh.

He said although crop loss assessment hasn’t been done, conservative estimates show that crops in thousands of acres have been damaged.

Six districts, Bargarh, Jajpur, Subarnapur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj and Baleswar, have been mostly-affected.

He mentioned that the situation of distress has already forced farmers to take drastic steps and two farmers have attempted to commit suicide.

“I would like to seek your personal indulgence to facilitate assessment of the situation and extend all possible support so that affected farmers will overcome the situation,” Pradhan requested Singh.
