Demolition drive by joint squad over structure affecting channel No. 4

Bhubaneswar: Continuing the drive against unauthorised structures on drains and drainage channels across the city, the joint squad of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a demolition drive on a structure near Jaydev Vihar Square.
The drive under Central Eviction Monitoring Committee (CEMC) was carried out over Plot No. 2290 (part) affecting Master Plan Road and Drainage Channel No – 4 near Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) side of Jaydev Vihar under the deployment of force from Saheed Nagar police station. The demolition order was passed by the ODA Court in UAP Case No. 439/2006.
The case was initiated against one Nrusingha Panigrahi, basing on the report of area amin on September 8,2006 and after due hearing the demolition order passed by the OSD (ODA Act), BDA on November 16,2006 for demolition of the unauthorised G+1 structure over the above mentioned plot.
Three excavators (two from BDA and one from BMC) were deployed today. However, the work has to be postponed today due to rains. The remaining portion of the building will be demolished tomorrow.
Additional Commissioner, Enforcement, BDA Bhabani Sankar Chayani led the demolition drive. Zonal Deputy Commissioner (North) of BMC Subhransu Mishra, Inspector-in-Charge Saheed Nagar, police station Padmanav Pradhan and other officials, Enforcement Officer-II, BDA, Pramod Kumar Patro and Liaison Officer, BDA, Subhransu Sekhar Mohanty were present.
One platoon of gents APR force and one section of lady police force were present at site to maintain law and order during the demolition drive. Four enforcement squads, two from BDA and two from BMC were present.
It can be mentioned here that both the development and civic authorities have adopted a “Zero Tolerance Policy’’ towards the encroachment on secondary, tertiary and major drainage channels across the city following urban flooding and water-logging situations in several places of Bhubaneswar in the recent past.
