Bhubaneswar: In a sustained effort to raise awareness about cancer, DCB Bank is organising cancer detection camps in Odisha during November 17-19, 2017. The Bank had conducted a similar drive in the state last year.
The camps will be held in Jajpur, Keonjhar and Kendrapara districts of Odisha in association with the noted oncologist Dr Shishir Shetty. Dr. Shetty is associated with leading hospitals in Mumbai. Moreover, oncology specialists and doctors from Odisha will also be a part of the mass awareness camps.
There is growing incidence of cancer in the country, partly because people, especially in faraway locations are unable to visit doctors until it is often too late. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics, India accounts for 2.2 million of the estimated 8.2 million fatalities due to cancer every year. Around 1.45 million people are living with the cancer and around 0.95 million new cases are detected annually. Across the world the age group between 30 to 69 years is especially vulnerable. What is also a fact, that many of the cancer cases can be treated with timely medical intervention.
DCB Bank said, “It is important to remember that early treatment is the best treatment for cancer. The lack of awareness and knowledge about cancer must be addressed on a war-footing. Some forms of cancer, such as tobacco-related oral and lung cancer, can be treated by educating people about the importance of recognising early signs and seeking prompt medical attention. People need to be aware of the other forms of cancer prevention, and take action to lower the risk of getting cancer with lifestyle changes, balanced diet, and exercise. This is the key message from DCB Bank in the camps.”
