From darkness to light, Hindalco’s cataract camps, an enabler

 

Bhubaneswar : As part of its CSR initiative, the Aditya Birla Group company, Hindalco, in association with Veera Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR), has been organising best-in-class cataract screening and surgery camps. This has enabled hundreds of people in and around Odisha move from a blurred almost near blind range of vision to a clear eyesight since the last few years. Up until now more than a 100 camps have been held. Hindalcohas redefined the lives of the people of Sambalpur in Odisha.

This year, Hindalco organised two screening camps – at Hirakud Government Hospital and Larapanka School. Ofthe 83 people screened, 40 underwent surgery for cataract treatment. The entire treatment was free of cost. A team of doctors, led by Dr. Sharmistha Behera, Assistant Professor (Ophthalmology) of VIMSR, have been performing the screen tests and referring cataract patients to VSS Medical College for surgery.

“It’s a privilege to be associated with Hindalco’s exemplary CSR initiatives, according cataract treatment, along with transportation and other essential facilities to the vision afflicted” said Dr. Behera.
