Conclave on “Best Practices In Industrial Safety & Occupational health”

Balasore: North Odisha Industrial Safety Conclave on “Best Practices in Industrial Safety & Occupational Health” was organised by Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Govt. of Odisha in association with NOCCi, on 23rd May, 2018 at NOCCi, Business Park, Balasore.

Industrialisation has brought within its wake several problems; one such is industrial accident. With rapid advances in industrial processes, new types of dangers to life, limb and health are being increasingly introduced. Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and Radiation hazards are set up on all sides. Accidents at work and occupational diseases claim lives of million of workers resulting in significant economic and financial losses. According to ILO, every year 250 million accidents occur causing absences from work, the equivalent of 685,000 accidents every day, 475 accidents every minute, 8 accidents every second. ILO estimates further that the fatality rate in advanced industrialized countries is almost half of that of Central and Eastern Europe, China and India. Providing Safe and Healthy workplace is one of the common goals of all countries. To achieve this common goal, cooperation and exchange of knowledge, experience and best practices on occupational safety and health is essentially required; which is the essence of today’s program.

Under the active leadership of Smt, Anu Garg, IAS, Principal Secretary, Labour & ESI Dept., an Annual Training Calendar for the year 2018-19 has been designed & accordingly one programme in each month is being organised at different industrial clusters of the state. The basic objective of such programme is to create awareness on safety and health among industrial workers. NOCCi has played an important role in extending support for smooth conduct of this conclave. The infrastructure and facilities available at NOCCi Business Park, Balasore is unique and one of the best in Odisha which was well by all.

Hon’ble Minister of Energy, Labour & ESI, Sj. Sushant Singh while inaugurating the conclave expressed his deep satisfaction for organising such awareness programme for the cause of human safety. He outlined on the objective of Vision Zero at workplace; that is Zero Tolerance for Non-Adherence to safety norms. He desired a worker to reach home with a smiling face; the way he left home for work.

On this occasion, workers from 16 establishments of North Odisha were felicitated with “Surakhita Sramika Bandhu Award” for their year-long safe work practices.

Sri Ramesh Ch. Rout, Collector-cum-District Magistrate highly appreciated the efforts made by NOCCi and Directorate of Factories & Boilers for organising the safety awareness programme at Balasore for the protection of Human lives.

Mohapatra, Director Factories & Boilers, Odisha & Er. C.S. Behera, Asst. Director of Factories & Boilers, Balasore also spoke on this occasion.
