CM Naveen Patanik said Odisha should now aspire for Olympic medals

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik joined at the closing ceremony of Odisha Tribal Sports. He hailed sports as a powerful instrument to break social barriers and discrimination. Commending the spirited performances by tribal sportspersons, he said that Odisha should now aspire for Olympic medals.

The first-of-its-kind event in the country that was started last year, saw participation of 1.3 lakh tribal sportspersons across seven disciplines. Highlights of the event:

• About 3500 sports persons took part in State-level competitions in team Events at seven venues; 1500 sports persons took part in State-level final stage competitions
• Implemented for Seniors, Juniors and Sub-Junior Categories for both boys and girls in disciplines of Football, Hockey, Athletics, Archery, Volleyball, Kabaddi and Kho-Kho.
• 144 numbers of cash awards in individual events and 58 numbers of cash awards in team events to the senior winning teams

Odisha Tribal Sports aims at identifying hidden sporting talents and helping nurture them to provide a platform for participating in National & International sports Competitions.
