Bhubaneswar:Centre will set up Paika Bidroha Memorial in Barunei foothills. The state government will provide 50 acres of land.
On this regard Union Culture Minister Dr Mahesh Sharma wrote to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for establishment of Paika Bidroha Memorial in Khurda. Dr Mahesh Sharma wrote to Utkal varsity Vice-Chancellor for setting up a Paika Bidroha Chair at the Utkal University in Bhubaneswar.
Minister Dr. Sharma has urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to identify a suitable place and allot 50 acres of land in the Barunei foothills for the proposed memorial to commemorate the Paika rebellion.
It should be noted that the Paika rebellion of 1817,also called Paika bidroha. The paik rebellion was led by bakshi Jagabandhu.
