‘’Business model innovations enabled by new technologies is the way to create exciting new opportunities in the energy sector,’’  Dharmendra Pradhan

Three day Refining Petrochemicals Technology Meet concluded with a high note

Bhubaneswar: Breakthrough technologies shall be the drivers in the coming years to meet the goals of cleaner technologies and clean fuels. In tune with its theme of ‘Emerging Trends in Hydrocarbon Sector’, at the 22nd Refining and  Petrochemicals Technology Meet hosted in the city by Centre of High Technology and IndianOil, technology providers from India and abroad showcased their pioneering technologies that may be the game changer to take the hydrocarbon sector to another level. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill & Entrepreneurship, while inaugurating the 3-day event had set the context of the Meet with the words, ‘’Business model innovations enabled by new technologies is the way  to create exciting new opportunities in the energy sector.’’

At the exhibition held on the sidelines of the event, the delegates thronged the stalls of Indian companies like IndianOil, EIL, HPCL and foreign companies including, DUPONT, Shell Global Solutions, KNT Group, Aspentech, Dorf Ketal, Quadrimex, among others to learn about future-ready hydrocarbon-related technologies. While  technology from IndianOil’s R&D like INDAdept,  Inde Diesel, shall bring down the sulphur content in petrol & diesel respectively to less than 10 ppm, technologies like INDMAX already running successfully in IndianOil’s Paradip Refinery optimises the production of domestic LPG and OCTAMAX  shall facilitate the production of high Octane fuel.  The technology of HPCL called HP-HiGAS Technology has achieved to bring down the size of essential columns in refining process from 23 metres to merely 2.5 metres, thus saving on space. The alkylation technology from DU PONT is a proven and commercialised technology to produce high octane gasoline and to mitigate the affect of poisonous metals. Isotherming Technology is also a commercially proven success that provides refiners a more economical means to produce low sulphur transportation fuels. Dorf Ketal has got the delegates excited about innovative chemical solutions for future refineries for processing heavier crudes to increase their profit margins. Another interesting technology showcased was IH2from CRI CATALYST, a process that converts any type of non-food biomass feedstock- such as forestry, agricultural residues, algae, aquatic plants to gasoline, jet fuel, etc.

The three-day meet ended on high note with very fruitful deliberations on various facets of the oil & gas industry with deliberations on producing high octane gasoline in sustainable ways, carbon recycling for clean fuel and clean air, innovative ideas in energy conservation and future of bio-fuels in India, among other relevant issues of the Indian and global refining landscape.

The event concluded with vote of thanks given by senior officials of IOCL.
