BMC plans strict action on dumping of construction materials and C&D waste on roads and drains

Bhubaneswar: In view of increasing instances of constructions materials and C&D waste dumped on the roads and drains, clogging the passage of storm water, BMC today decided to prepare a mechanism for standardising of procedures for seizing of building materials from the roads and auction or hand it over to the authorised agencies, to be empanelled by the civic body. It is being planned that the enforcement officer will seize the material on the spot and handover to the authorised agencies.

Besides, show cause notices will be issued to institutions including schools which dump C&D waste on the roads. During a field visit to various locations in the city early today, BMC Commissioner directed to issue a show cause notice to Unit 8 DAV School which had dumped building materials and debris on the road.

Similarly, Dy. Commissioner BMC has been directed take action against one showroom named Zing Spice World, which has illegally put its transformer encroaching on the road and also dumped garbage on the road. He has also been directed to levy fine on the showroom as solid waste management charges.

BDA Enforcement team has been directed to arrange for immediate removal of the shops which have encroached upon the footpath near City Women’s College Square. It has also been decided to approach the Works dept. for preparing the plan for drainage improvement near the area as the drainage to the nearest natural drain no. 8 has been blocked at this place.

The Commissioner also directed that enquiry teams from BDA shall be deployed for conducting detail enquiries for filing of cases under ODA Act / Municipal Act for demolition of structures constructed on natural drainage near Shatabdi Nagar. Further the BMC drainage division has also been directed to prepare a block cost estimate for missing link of Drainage from Shatabdi Nagar to Jagmara new Road. The drainage division has also been asked to conduct a field enquiry for checking the land status and submit a block cost estimate for the joining the missing link from Gandamunda to backside of ITER college.

During the visit, it was found that the drain discharging the water from Sidhi Vihar, Krishna Garden and Mallik complex are not able to flow because of an encroachment by a temple in front of Krishna Garden. The Zonal Dy. Commissioner has been asked to remove this encroachment.

Joint Enforcement Squad of BMC – BDA removes encroachments along drains:

Acting on the instructions, joint enforcement squad of BMC and BDA, removed encroachments over drains and footpaths near City Women’s College, Nuagaon Chowk near SUM Hospital. During eviction near City Women’s College Square and onwards, 23 Tin extension sheds, 7 Bamboo polythene sheds, 5 Cabins, 2 Fast-food shops and 4 Advertising boards were demolished in supervision of EO-II of BDA. Besides, the South West Zone squad of BMC seized 4 trips (Tipper) chips and one trip sand dumped on road near DAV school area in Ward 46.
