Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar registered 39.4% increase in passenger inflow

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar registered a record growth in passenger inflow during 2017-18 fiscal.

According to the statistics released by Airports Authority of India (AAI), the BPIA registered a 39.4% growth in passenger traffic in 2017-18 compared previous year.

The statistics shows that a total of 32,50,635 passengers, both domestic and international, flew from the airport in 2017-18 while the number was 23,32,433 in 2016-17.

Even as Delhi topped the list as the busiest airport in India with the highest number of passengers, the BPIA recorded its increase in percentage of passengers. The Delhi airport recorded 6,56,91,662 passengers in 2017-18 while Mumbai registered the lowest percentage (7.4%) in passenger traffic growth during the period.

The BPIA registered a 39.4% increase in air passenger traffic followed by Mangalore (30.8%), Kolkata (25.7%), Jaipur (25.7%), Port Blair (25.2%), Ahmedabad (23.9%) and Guwahati (23.2%).
