Bhubaneswar: Even though there is a large-scale damage to all the 11 Aahar centres across the city and the kitchen near Nakhara on the city outskirts, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to reopen them on Wednesday.
The decision was made following different rounds of meetings considering the extent of the damages made to the central kitchen at Bamphakuda near Nakhara and the Aahar centres under BMC. The State Government and Housing and Urban Development Department also extended all helps for reopening of the centres and the central kitchen facility.
Meanwhile, the civic body has decided to open 200 “jal seva sibir’’ or temporary water kiosks across the city. BMC will also provide an assistance of Rs 5,000 to all agencies concerned for reopening as many were damaged during severe cyclonic storm FANI on May 3.
“However, this special assistance of Rs 5,000 is only for the damage caused by severe cyclonic storm Fani and it is not a regular measure,’’ clarified a BMC official.
Interestingly Bhubaneswar Auto Mahasangh, women self-help groups (SHGs), Scouts and Guides, Satyasai Sangathan and different civil society organisations of the city have promised to open and run the “jal seva sibirs’’ in the city. Odisha State Bharat Scouts and Guides will take part in “jal seva sibir’’ for the first time in the city.
