Report by Dipti Ranjan Kanungo; Bhubaneswar: Amenities Committee headed by Deputy Speaker Lal Behari Himirika has submitted a proposal of increasing salaries, allowances and traveling expenses of MLAs before the Government. If the recommendation of the committee implemented, an MLA’s salary plus other allowances would increase to Rs 47, 500. Presently an MLA is getting Rs 21, 200 per month as his salary and other allowances. Parliament Affairs Minister Raghunath Mohanty on Wednesday informed the House Replying to a question of the legislatures Amar Prasad Satapathy and Arabinda Dhali and additional questions of Nrusingh Sahu, Rajendra Kumar Sahu and Prasant Nanda, Minister said the Government would take a formal decision to this effect soon.
He informed that the committee has recommended for enhancing monthly salary of an MLA from Rs 5, 000 to Rs 10, 000, consolidated stipend from Rs 5, 000 to Rs 10, 000, fixed stipend from Rs 4, 000 to 10, 000, traveling allowance from Rs 2, 000 to 7, 000, phone allowance from 5, 000 to 10, 000 and magazine allowance from Rs 200 to Rs 500.
