Monday, July 26, 2010

New Delhi: The Chief Minister Dr K Rosaiah today held a teleconference from Delhi with the Commissioner, Disaster Management, Mt. T. Radha and District Collectors on the latest conditions in the respective districts following heavy rains for the last couple of days. The Chief Minister though expressed satisfaction over the copious rainfall all over the State since the last few days, asked the District Collectors and other officials to be on constant vigil and initiate relief operations wherever required. Dr. Rosaiah said the incessant rain in the last few days affected normal life in several parts of the State, including Hyderabad and reports are there that many low lying areas were inundated.

The Chief Minister said more rain is predicted by the meteorological office under the influence of a low-pressure in the Bay of Bengal. He said though there are no loss of life or major property damage reported so far, we should be on high alert since Vamsadhara and Nagavali rivers are flowing at dangerous levels. The Chief Minister asked the Collectors of all districts to be on constant vigil and prevent loss of life and damage to property during heavy rains. Dr Rosaiah also asked the Collectors and other officials to be always on the alert about inundation of low lying areas and monitor the situation on a day to day basis. Dr Rosaiah asked the Collectors to constantly watch the situation and the intensity of the rainfall in different districts. He wanted the District Collectors to evacuate people from the low lying areas to safer places well in advance in case of any inundation. He said funds will readily be available for any relief operations. The Chief Minister also asked the Collectors, Commissioner, GHMC, officials of the Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj and Health Department to be vigilant about the possibility of seasonal and communicable diseases like viral fever and other epidemics spreading in the heavy rainfall areas. He directed them to store adequate medicines well in advance and sanitise the areas once the rains are over. Public places and roads should be cleared of dirt and waste. Dr Rosaiah also wanted the officials to clear the nallas and manholes on a day to day basis for the smooth flow of rain and drain water.
