Gujarat CM Narendra Modi flags off India's biggest sport festival - 'Khel Mahakumbh'

Ahmedabad: Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi, today inaugurates India's biggest sport festival 'Khel Mahakumbh' from the Shahibaug police stadium in Ahmedabad.

Stunning event orchestrated with a view to foster the sporting nerve of the people of Gujarat and thus to put the state on the sport map of India, will see a huge participation of around 16-lakh youths from across the state.

State government has organized today a colorful program to mark the beginning of this sporting event. The program will begin traditionally with the playing of various musical instruments like drums, ravan-haththa and sharanai, just after the arriving of dignitaries on the venue on 9:30am.

As many as 2000 students; then will demonstrate their yoga skills, all at a time, possibly first time in the country in such a huge number. This will be followed by 'Drums of India', a program where there will be a harmonious playing of various musical instruments from all over the India.

A seven minute theme song 'Khele Khel Khelaiya' will be presented then, during which games like kho-kho, football, hu-tu-tu and others - will be shown symbolically as with the words of the song. This will be followed by Chief Minister's welcome address; soon after which he will put 'Swarnim Khel Mahakumbh' open and flag-off the baton rally.

The rally, consisting 33 jeeps (one each for 26 districts and seven municipalities) and 1087 motorbikes then will depart with the sports person, sports officer and police official in the jeep. The rally, as scheduled will reach to district/taluka headquarters on November 21 and to district panchayat seat on November 22.

Competition for district panchayat seat will be held during November 22-25, taluka level competition during November 26-29, direct district level competition during November 25 to December 1 and district level competition will held during December 1-4. District teams will be given training during December 5-7. State level semi-final will be held during December 8-12 and finals on December 13-14.
