Report by Orissa Diary correspondent; Bhubaneswar: A day after Six-a-side CII-Young India Hockey Fest 2010-11 tournament was over, Dilip Tirkey Sports Research and Development Foundation (DTSRDF) on Sunday announced the names of 37 probables who will play “C” class matches at national level.
The selected players include Millan Ekka, Bikash Toppo, Anil Xalco, Paulus Ekka, Pramod Lakra, Sanjeev Lakra (all from Tileikani team), Suleiman Dungdung, Mandeep Kujur, Santosh Soren, Sujit Kerketa (Sounamora), Ajay Tete, Sandeep Soren, Deonish Barwa, Ajaya Barla, Enmius Kujur (Kubapara), Lalit Kerketa, Prakash Jojo (Salagbahar), Binod Lugun, Bhusan Lugun, Sanjit Minz, Joseph Bara (Nuagaon), Rajkumar Lakra, Prabin Toppo, Sachin Barla, Sumit Kujur (Kahupani), Suprian Kujur, Sachin Ekka, R.K. Kujur, B. Minz (Lukudhi), Ranjit Kulla, Dayal Hembrum, Amit Minz, Pradip Hembrum Samir Suchit Minz, Ujaman Baral and P. Eka (Jampali).
The players were selected basing on their performance at the league matches in the Sundergarh district and at quarter-final, seminal and final matches held here at CRPF ground in Bhubaneswar.
Of the 37 probables, 22 will be selected to play at national level tournaments.
The 37 probables will undergo physical tests and other required process after which we will announce names of the final 22 who will form a team. The team will represent Dilip Tirkey Sports Research and Development Foundation in ‘C’ class tournaments.
It may be mentioned here that through Hockey Fest, the DTSRDF tried to indentify the rural talents in Sundergarh district, considered to be the breeding ground of upcoming hockey stars. It organized at least over five dozen of village-level matches before selecting 64 players to be divided in six teams to play league matches.
The eight teams were named after Tileikani (Olympian Lazrus Barla’s village), Sounamora (Dilip Tirkey’s village), Kupapada, Lukudhi, Jampali, Kahupani, Nuagoan and Salagbahar).
