Joda: Tata Steel in association with District Blind Control Society (DBCS), Keonjhar organised a Cataract Operation Camp at Joda. The camp was set-up on January 9, 2017 at Joda West Auditorium for registration process. It was inaugurated on January 10, 2017 at Joda West Auditorium by Mr Pravin Srivastava, Chief Raw Material Projects, Tata Steel in the presence of Ms Debajani Patnaik, Gynaecologist of Tata Steel Hospital Joda, Mr Padam Shekhar Jha, Head, Security (OMQ), Tata Steel Mr N N B Rao, Senior Manager Administration, Joda, Tata Steel along with ladies club members of Tata Steel.
These operations were carried out by a five-member team from DBCS led by Mr Rashmi Ranjan Bhanja, Senior Eye Specialist, DBCS, Keonjhar. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Srivastava said: “This type of camp will help the poor and the needy who are unable to reach out to far locations. They will get a new lease of life after the operation."
Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS), the CSR wing of Tata Steel is driving this initiative in collaboration with DBCS, Keonjhar. A total of 371 patients were registered for the camp and out of this 127 patients were declared eligible for cataract operation after screening by doctors. 70 patients will be covered in the first phase of operation which will conclude on January 12, 2017. Rest will be covered in the second phase. After the operation, all the patients are being advised to stay for a day in the camp at Joda. The camp saw patients from Joda, Khondbond, Barbil, Bamebari, Bichhakundi,Malda,Deojhar including patients from nearest districts like Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh.
