Paradip: Paradip Port Trust (PPT) observed its foundation day on January 3. On this occasion, a marathon race was organised in which 888 persons from Odisha and other States participated. Among the participants, 826 were men and 62 women.
PPT Chairman Rinkesh Roy flagged off the 12-km-long marathon in the morning at Atharbanki Square which ended at the Gopabandhu Stadium. During the competition, inhabitants of the port township, schoolchildren and many organisations encouraged the marathoners.
In the men’s category Mukund Banra and women category Samsad Ara Begum stood first and were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 12,500 each. Similarly in the men’ category, Yogendra Tiriya and Budra Bisi Nayak and women category Sobha Nayak and Heera Majhi stood second and third, respectively, and were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 9,400 and Rs 6,300 each.
Attending the valedictory function at the Gopabandhu Stadium as chief guest, PPT chief Roy thanked all the participants in the marathon making it successful. He gave away the prizes. PPT Deputy Chairman N Vaiyapuri attended the function as guest of honour. PPT FA &CAO SK Sahu presided over the meeting and conducted the prize giving ceremony.
In the marathon, 21 participants each from men and women categories securing up to sixth position were awarded cash prizes. Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad secretary Rabi Das offered a vote of thanks.
