Wild animals rescued from abandoned house

Sambalpur: The city police today literally stumbled upon several wild animals including two cobras, a baby python and birds kept in an abandoned house here.

Wildlife and forest officials suspect that the abandoned house was being used as a centre for exporting wild animals, birds and reptiles.

The main accused is said to be a person with close links to a ruling party leader. He has absconded, said police sources while informing that as of now eight people have been arrested in connection with the case.

Police sources said they had raided the abandoned house in connection with a incident of firing last night. One person was injured in the firing and we were on the look out for criminals involved in the incident, said police sources.

The raid led to seizure of two parrots, one monkey, two king cobras, a baby python, four white rats, two ducks and seven love birds. The abandoned house was allegedly in the possession of a person known as Mr Saha.

Besides, the animals, the police found an air gun, six revolvers, seven swords and as many as 10 other weapons.
