Vigilance panel lends an ear to PDS peeve

Sambalpur: A delegation of the Central vigilance commission led by chairman Mr Justice DP Wadhwa visited Sambalpur for public hearing on public distribution system (PDS) today. The panel, during the visit, interacted with the consumers and redressed some of their problems.

The district level officers from civil supply department assisted the team. Collector of Sambalpur Mr Pradipta Kumar Patnaik answered the queries of the consumers. During the session, consumers put forth the problems they face with the retailers of commodities such as rice, wheat, kerosene and sugar. The delegation heard the grievances and directed concerned authorities for quick redressal. “Stringent action would be taken against the dealers and the government officers who have been creating problems in the proper implementation of the PDS,” said Mr Biraj Patnaik, the member secretary. Inclusion of political leaders to the PDS committee often forces the civil supply department to defy the guideline, the CSO told the committee.

Media persons present at the forum also informed the panel about the BPL card problem that come in the way of smooth distribution of commodities under PDS. Mr Dinesh Dayal, Mr Ananta Garg, Mr Aman R Nath, Mr US Mohanty were present during the public hearing. Local residents praised the move and said that it was an appropriate platform to vent both their anger and grievance.
