The State Vigilance has filed criminal cases against ten government officials and arrested one of them in the multi-crore BPL rice scam case. Official sources on Thursday said that those booked by the anti-corruption wing in Rourkela area included an Orissa Administrative Service officer, three Civil Supplies Officers and three Assistant CSOs, with one ACSO having retired from service already. In addition to this one area inspector Sitakanta Rout has also been arrested in connection with the alleged scam, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Swarup Parida said. In another incident, district collector Shalini Pandit has cancelled the licenses of 13 PDS dealers and three other shop owners, official sources said. The investigation conducted by the vigilance sleuths found that there were about 2,750 fake cards in the area, Parida said. Local Self Help Groups (SHGs) had been entrusted with the public distribution system.
