Puri: Panic has gripped the pilgrim city following a threat to Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, the Shakaracharya of Gobardhan Peetha, here.
The Peetha received the threatening letter on Tuesday.
Following a complaint lodged with the Sea Beach police station, district SP Asit Kumar Panigrahi has started investigating into the matter.
Stating that the Maoists would launch agitation against the Christian Pana community, the letter asked the seer to support the agitation failing which the consequences would be disastrous.
The letter also said that the Maoists would make plans to drive out the Christian Panas and other non-tribal communities from the tribal-infested districts and would not rest a bit unless they are successful in their mission, the letter pointed out.
Maintaining that the Maoists are being strongly backed by the RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, BJD and BJP leaders, the letter has asked the Peetha staffs to tear out the letter without telling anybody because if the non-tribals would come to know about their plans, their dreams would not be materialized.
While the letter has been received in the name of Maobadi Sangathan, Phulbani, Orissa, it has been posted from Bhubaneswar on December 13, 2008, police said.
Attached to the letter is a leaflet of the CPI-Maoist’s Orissa unit.
When contacted, the Peetha staffs said that they would apprise the chief minister of the incident on Wednesday.
It may be mentioned here that the Peetha had received a threatening letter of this sort a few months ago.
