Bhubaneswar: Lakhs of devotees witnessed the Debasnan (bathing ritual of the deities) of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra on Friday morning.
The temple servitors began the rituals associated with the Snan Yatra of the three deities at 4 am. Later, the deities were taken in the Pahandi mode to the Snan Mandap, an elevated platform facing the Bada Danda (Grand Road).
The servitors dressed the deities in the attire of elephant (Gaja Vesha) after performing their bathing ritual by pouring 108 pots of water. After the Gaja Vesha, the servitors carried the deities to the Anabasar Griha in the afternoon.
The deities would spend the next fifteen days in the Anabarsar Griha, away from public glare before reappearing in their Naba Jauban Vesha (new look).
