Report by Deba Prasad Dash; Malkangiri: A 35 year-old widow who was found critically injured with burns to most of her body died under mysterious circumstances while on the way to district headquarters hospital from about 75 km from here on Monday morning. While, one Saurav Das has also been sustained serious burn injury, but his condition is stated to be critical.
A police team was found the Podia based SC/ST Department managed School Assistant Teacher Sukhalata Dash and one Saurav Das working with the NGO-Harmony in a critical condition in her government quarter in the school premises early in the morning on Monday.
The moment we arrived at the spot after getting information from the school headmaster Prana Krushna Behera, they were shouting like anything. Later, we shifted them to the district headquarters hospital, police sources said.
While, Sukhalata, who was sustained despite serious burn injury on her whole body succumbed to the injury on the way to hospital, Saurav with more than 80 percent burn injury on his body admitted into the headquartes hospital here, but later shifted to Cuttack SCB Medical College as his condition deteriorated.
The woman identified as Sukhalata Tripathy, in her statement to the police minutes before her death said that both of them were decided to commit suicide and hence poured Kerosene on their body, but it was Saurav who first set fire to me and later he ultimately caught the fire, said Malkangiri IIC R.K.Pati. After, the death of her husband two years back, she was survived by her only daughter, he said.
Her entire family has been tight-tipped about the circumstances which have led to the death; police is on the job to ascertain why Saurav had been to Sukhalata’s quarter and was stayed there in the night.
Mean while Podia police has started probing into the sensational case following a FIR lodged by Mausumi Tripathy, a relative of Sukhalata.
