Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Monday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) writ petition that had sought judicial intervention alleging that Cuttack was left out from the Central government-sponsored scheme of Smart City in a discriminatory manner. A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice DH Waghela dismissed the PIL.
President of High Court Bar Association Ashok Mohapatra had filed the PIL claiming that Cuttack has been wrongfully debarred from getting the Smart City tag by an arbitrary evaluation of its potentialities.
Notably, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela have been included in the Smart City list by the Union Urban Development Ministry. Apart from Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, the Odisha state government had recommended Cuttack, Berhampur and Sambalpur to be included in the Smart City project. However, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela were the front runners among the five cities. Bhubaneswar and Rourkela had scored 70 points and 61.8 points respectively. On the other hand, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Cuttack had scored 60 points each.
