26th Annual Flower & Vegetable Show at Tata Steel Noamundi concludes
Noamundi: The 26th Annual Flower & Vegetable Show at Tata Steel Noamundi concluded today on a colourful note. The event was held at Sports Complex, Noamundi from January 5 to January 7, 2017. The event witnessed an overwhelming response from flower lovers, farmers, garden owners, exhibitors and students.
Guests from Tata Steel Europe, namely, Dr Paul Brooks, Group Director (Safety, Health & Environment), Tata Steel and Mr Roger Steens, Chief Sustainability, Tata Steel Europe visited the stalls and were impressed to see such greenery and consciousness of people towards biodiversity in the mining area. Dr Brookes said that the flower show is a good example of community involvement and engagement. Mr Steens said that this event is a perfect symbiosis among the community, nature and business that comes together for creating a prosperous and sustainable future. They were accompanied by Mr Pankaj Satija, General Manager (OMQ), Tata Steel.
Mr Satish Kumar, Director of Mines Safety, Chaibasa Region was the Chief Guest of the closing ceremony and gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions organized during the three days. Jindal Steel & Power Limited, Barbil was bestowed the winner’s trophy and Sarda Mines Private Limited, Thakurani Iron Mine bagged the 1st runners up tropy in the Institutions category. The 2nd runners up trophy went to Tata Steel Kalinganager, Jajpur and Rungta Mines Limited, Barbil. Special Individual Prize was bagged by Mrs Mukhi House Garden. Special Merit prizes went to five mines, namely, Tata Sponge Iron Limited, Bilaipada, Gua Iron Ore Mine, SAIL Gua, Joda East iron Mine,Tata Steel, SAIL ,Kiriburu and Jindal Steel & Power Limited,Jeraldaburu. Prizes were also given to the winners of the sit and draw competition organized for school children.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said: This is the best flower show, I’ve ever seen. This shows that mining companies do much more than just mining and the hard work of all the mines in conserving biodiversity can be seen in the exhibits here.”
The welcome address was given by Mr R P Mali, Chief Noamundi Iron Mine, Tata Steel and the vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Dipak Behera,Head (Planning), OMQ, Tata Steel. Among those present during the closing ceremony were Mr P K Dhall, Chief Engineering & Projects, OMQ, Tata Steel,Mr Debashis Jena,Chief (Processing & Logistics), OMQ, Tata Steel, Mr Sanjit Kumar Adhya, Head (Operations), Noamundi Iron mine, Tata Steel ,Mr  Roshan Singh, Senior Manager (Horticulture), OMQ Division , Tata Steel, officials of the participating organisations and school students.
