Chennai: SEESHA held an inaugural function of tree plantation drive , where 3,00,000 tree saplings were distributed across chennai, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram district to restore the lost vegetation of the city following the recent Vardah cyclone . The launch of tree sapling distribution was organized at Prayer Tower campus, DR Dhinakaran Road, Chennai in the presence of well wishers & donors. This will help and restore the Ecosystem.
Dr Paul Dhinakaran, founder of SEESHA encouraged the children and motivated them to care for others and preserve the environment . On the occassion , he distributed the tree saplings. Dr Paul Dhinakaran also emphasized the importance and urgent need of initiating massive plantation drives to restore the lost vegetation of the state . The program was organized under the leadership of Dr Jeyakumar Daniel, Executive Director - SEESHA.
As part of SEESHA's commitment towards child development 1,00,000 new clothes were distributed to poor and needy children across India, Further, 1000 new clothes were distributed to children from chennai as a part of psychosocial support following the destructive cyclone Vardah. Also, assistive devices were given to 5 differently- abled people ( 5 - retrofitment scooty PEP's )that would aid them in their livelihood and sewing machines were given to 12 women who have successfully completed the free tailoring course conducted through SEESHA women empowerment program, course completion ( Government recognized ) certificates for Tailoring , Computer Training and Jewellery designing were given to the 100 students from ultra- poor families who successfully completed the courses conducted through SEESHA,
A minute of silence was observed as a mark of respect for the demise of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa at the start of the event.
