Report by Nalini Sahu; Bhubaneswar: Prakash Mishra was on Tuesday appointed as the new director general of police (DGP), Odisha.
He replaced Manmohan Praharaj who was shifted as DG, fire services. Besides, Mr Praharaj has been appointed as the Commandant General of Home Guards.
Mr Mishra, a 1977 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, is currently in Central deputation and working as director general of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
“Chief minister Naveen Patnaik has appointed Prakash Mishra as the new DGP of Odisha. He is likely to take charge of his responsibility within three-four days,” state chief secretary B.K. Patnaik said. After the May 29 failed coup attempt by the suspended BJD Rajya Sabha member Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, it was expected that the chief minister might replace the DG.
The chief minister, according to sources, was given an impression that because of the intelligence wing he could not know the design by Mr Mohapatra’s camp to usurp power. The new DG will retired from service in 2016.
