Report by OrissaDiary.com correspondent; Bhubaneswar: With the concerted effort of Tata Steel and Pathani Samanta Planetarium, School children of Odisha are now collating their thoughts on moving in and around the galaxy.
The final camp of the Young Astronomer Talent Search (YATS)-2011, organized by Tata Steel in collaboration with the Pathani Samanta Planetarium, is scheduled to be held on 12th - 13th December, 2011.
The young aspirants from various schools in the state would compete among themselves for the top twenty slots in the state. “My Dream Spacecraft” has been selected as the topic for this year.
Out of more than a thousand participants from 30 districts of Odisha, 120 successful students of the zonal camp have been invited for the State Camp in Bhubaneswar. They belong to Jharsugurah, Sundargarh, Bolangir, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Puri, Jajpur and Balasore among others.
The YATS-2011 competition was open for students of Standard – 8 to Standard – 12 in all schools of the state. For the talent search exercise, Odisha was divided into seven zones such as, Belpahar, Keonjhar, Joda, Jajpur, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Jeypore.
In the first stage, the participating students were required to prepare a synopsis on “My Dream Spacecraft”. It was followed by the zonal level competitions held at Belpahar, Keonjhar, Joda, Jajpur, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Jeypore.
The best 20 models of the state level camp would be awarded on the eve of the 176th anniversary of Mahamahopadhyay Chandrasekhar Singhsamant Harichandan Mahapatra popularly known as Pathani Samanta on December 13, 2011.
