Orissa: Final voter list for Panchayat election to be published on November, 2011

Report by Priyabrata Nayak; Bhubaneswar:  Final voter list for the three tire Panchayat election which is expected to be held on February 2012, will be published on November 2nd this year. Along with it fresh persons who are eligible for voting can registered themselves for the enlistment in to the voter list on 1st of November.

Addressing media persons here State election commission Ajit kumar tripathy said, election for the posts of Ward member, Sarpanch and Panchayat Samiti member would be held on February or March. But our first priority is to prepare a accurate and mistake less voter list. Except all our effort we need peoples co-operation to achieve this success.

Speaking more about the plans and programmes for the voter list preparation Tripathy said, like last election this time people will cast their voting right through ballot paper. Voter list for the Panchayat election will be made on the basis of Assembly election voter list. On 14th November preliminary list will be publish. Those persons who find their name or other information incorrectly or not included to the list, can apply  for correction, deletion or inclusion of their information before 21st November he said. The application form for the said purpose, will be available at the Panchayat office at free of cost. The Electoral registration officer inquires into the grievances. Despite this if the mistakes could not be addressed, then one can bring this matter to the notice of BDO of their respective area.

The voter list will be prepared and printed in the strict supervision of District Collectors. The date of the Pancayat election is yet to decide, but the three tire election will be took place for the post of 87,551 ward members, 6236 Sarpanchs, 6235 panchayat samiti members and 854 Zilla parishad members.

This year one new panchayat included each of Keonjhar and Nayagarh. At the same time Jajpur and Keonjhar got 4 and 5 new wards respectively. Out of 2.80 crore voters total a number of 2.40 crore voters will cast their vote. Apart from this a budget of  52.23 crore for the electoral process and 4 crore for the security arrangement, has been sanctioned.
