Orissa Govt to handover Mid Day Meal scheme to School and Mass Education department

Report by OrissaDiary.com correspondent; Bhuabaneswar: In a significant development Orissa Govt. has taken a policy decision to handover all matters relating to Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme to School and Mass Education department.

This was decided in an important cabinet meeting held today in Orissa secretariat. Prior to this Women and Child development (WCD) department was taking care of MDM scheme in all schools across the state. But the budget provision for the MDM programme will be with Women and Child development department. Like previous years WCD department will look after the supplementary Nutrition Scheme through itís Anganwadi Centers.

But a Conesus could not be reached today for withdrawal of fake cast certificate giving powers from the MLAs. It will be discussed in the next cabinet. Orissa Govt. has already formed a ministerial committee to look into different aspects of this matter. SC and ST Minister Lal Bihari Himirika is heading the committee which have Law Minister Bikram Arukh and Health Minister Prasanna Acharya as its members.

Similarly, Orissa Cabinet today approved to regularize the services of 291 foresters and 1539 forest guards. The cabinet also approved the annual administrative report of Orissa Lokpal. As per sources till 31st March 2011 1892 cases were registered near Orissa Lokpal.   Out of which 347 cases were solved and 72 cases referred to departments for prompt action. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presided over the cabinet meeting.
