Bhubaneswar: Delivering his address at the 4th Institute Day celebration of the IIT Bhubaneswar here on Friday, its director Prof Madhusudan Chakraborty said that the institute is expected to start operating in its new campus at Arugul by the end of 2013. The boundary wall construction is in progress and the campus construction is expected within this year.
He thanked the organisations that included IIT Kharagpur Extension Centre, the Institute of Metals and Mineral Technology, Central Tool Room and Training Centre and Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology for making it possible to carry out the academic activity in the interim period.
The state government has allotted 936 acres of land while the Centre has sanctioned Rs 380 crore for the campus whose master plan has also been approved. When completed, it would support 10,000 students, 1000 faculty members and 1100 supporting staff.
At present, the institute has 440 undergraduate and 42 postgraduate students. Chief guest Justice Umesh C Banerjee, a retired judge of the Supreme Court, reminded the students that they must always remember the contribution of everybody including the society in their success and pay back their debt.
He described the students as the best talents available in the country and advised them to work with honesty, integrity and sincerity of purpose. Deputy Director Prof Ganapati Panda introduced the chief guest and Registrar Bata Kishore Ray gave the vote of thanks.
