Report by Orissa Diary correspondent; Bhubaneswar: The much awaited socio-economic survey to prepare the BPL list in Orissa will start from September 15. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
Center has permitted Orissa to start the fresh survey ahead of other states as the state will go for panchayat polls in early 2012. Orissa has already made a request in this regard to center.
"The Centre yesterday allowed the state government to start survey for preparation of the new BPL list ahead of other states," Orissa Panchayati Raj Minister Maheswar Mohanty told reporters. The physical verification of households will be completed within 45 days in the entire state.
The new list is likely to come into effect from 2012-13 fiscal year. This time school teachers will not be engaged in the survey. Rather center will provide machines for data collection data entry operators for smooth completion of the survey exercise.
Presently Orissa is using 1997 BPL survey list. In 2002 though the survey was done but list could not be published due to several factors. So, after a gap of 14 years the state will gear up for identifying the poor.
