Odisha's population rises to 4.19 crore in 2011 ; literacy rate rises to 73.5 per cent

: State’s population rises to 4.19 crore in 2011 with an increase of 51, 42, 698 in the last 10 years, the provisional Census report released on Thursday said. As per the provisional Census reports-2011 the state population has gone up to 4,19,47,358. The report also says the gender gap between the male and female child has been narrowed down.
The report said, there has been 13.97 per cent growth in population in Odisha during the last ten years since the Census 2001 with increase of 51,42.698 persons. In the Census 2001 report, the total population of the State was recorded at 3,68,4060. The fresh demographic profile said that there are 2,12,16078 males in the State against 2,07,45,680 female.
Interestingly, the literacy rate has gone up from 63.1 per cent in 2001 to 73.5 per cent in 2011. Likewise, the male literacy rate has increased from 75.3 per cent in 2001 to 82.4 per cent in 2011. As far as female literacy rate is concerned, the figures have shot up remarkably. The figures indicate 50.5 per cent females were literate in the state in 2001 as compared to 73.5 in 2011.
It said that the State population has been recorded 3.47 per cent of the total population of the country and the density of the population in every sq km has also increased during the last ten years. While the population density was 236 during 2001, it increased to 269 in 2011.
